Evening thunderstorms – the new normal for most parts of TN

Daytime heating in the interiors coupled with good convectional support is expected to continue across TN. Surge in westerly wind speeds will continue to build fast moving but intense thunderstorms leading to sharp, short showers.

Currently, the axis of monsoon trough at sea level extends from Jaisalmer across Vidarbha dipping into the Bay of Bengal. This extended trough dip is expected to spawn another low pressure area by numerical weather models over the next few days.

City Outlook:

Chennai – Partly cloudy with a high of about 35 degrees and a low of about 28 degrees. Possibility of isolated thunderstorms during the evening time.

Vellore – Some clouds and warm with a high of about 36 degrees and low of about 27 degrees.

Madurai – Partly cloudy with a high of about 35C and a low of about 29 degrees. Possibility of isolated thunderstorms on this day.

Coimbatore – Partly cloudy with high of about 31C and clear night with a low of about 23 degrees.

Trichy – Warm and clear a high of about 37 degrees and a low of about 28 degrees. Chance of isolated thunderstorms in the evening.
