Thunderstorm activity set to intensify across Tamil Nadu bringing respite from hot temperatures

After a week of scattered thunderstorms and intense heat across many parts of tamilnadu, The thunderstorm activity is expected to pick up from 16th July onward bringing much needed relief, as an Upper Air Cyclonic Circulation (UAC) is likely to form over the west-central Bay of Bengal near the Andhra Pradesh coast. This system will enhance thunderstorm activity over southern peninsular India.

Tamil Nadu is expected to see increase in thunderstorm occurrences. The KTCC districts—Chennai, Kanchipuram, Thiruvallur, and Chengalpattu—are likely to witness late afternoon to night-time thunderstorms, with the possibility of early morning showers around 19th/20th July when the circulation is closer to the coast.

Interior Tamil Nadu can expect thunderstorms mainly during the afternoon to evening hours.
