Unforgiving Heat Likely To Keep Tamil Nadu At A Simmer

The southern peninsula continues to face the relentless heat of the Sun as we move one step closer towards the sizzling month of May. High temperatures will continue to prevail across the peninsula with relief arriving to the extreme coastal areas in the form of sea breeze.
However, it is not all sombre as the heat is likely to pave way for severe thunderstorms in the interiors of the peninsula by afternoon. This should produce isolated rains in interior Tamil Nadu, parts of interior Karnataka and the adjoining portions of Kerala. Severe thunderstorms, with possible squalls and hails could occur in the eastern parts of the country with the state of West Bengal under focus. Parts of Odisha and Andhra Pradesh could also experience isolated thunderstorms. Heavy rainfall is likely in the north-eastern states present proximal to Bangladesh.

City Outlook:
Chennai – Hot and dull weather ahead with a maximum of 36-37 C.
Trichy – Incredible heat likely with maximum temperatures of 40-41 C in the afternoon. A shower or two possible in the evening in the district.
Madurai – The city will experience a hot afternoon with the temperature capping at 40 C.
Coimbatore – Searing weather up ahead as the mercury could hit 36-37 C. Showers possible in the evening.
Vellore – Blistering afternoon on the cards as the temperature is all set to reach 42 C. Showers likely in the afternoon.
