It’s been 22 years when Chennai last witnessed 100km/hr winds during a cyclone landfall over city on October 30, 1994. After this long wait, Cyclone Vardah takes aim at North Tamil Nadu. Residents of North TN should prepare for the worst as severe cyclone Vardah approaches head on to make landfall near Chennai on Monday late evening. Heavy winds can be expected along with flooding leading to disrupted power and fallen trees with gusts reaching 100 kilometers per hour.
Many areas over coastal TN will experience moderate to heavy rainfall with chances of very heavy rainfall at certain places. The storm is expected to move west and bring in moderate to heavy precipitation over Northern districts in TN as it continues to weaken.

Madurai – Mostly sunny and very warm with a high of about 33 degrees.
Coimbatore – Brilliant sunshine and warm with a high of about 30 degrees.
