Weakened Cyclone Kyant To Move Southwestwards Towards The Tamil Nadu-Andhra Coast

Cyclone Kyant, which now exists as a weakened system at the intensity of a depression is likely to move west south west, towards the Andhra Pradesh and adjoining Tamil Nadu coast. This is likely to trigger scattered rains in southern parts of coastal Andhra Pradesh as well as some parts of Tamil Nadu. Inspite of rain in the coastal areas, hot weather is likely to prevail in the interiors of Tamil Nadu. Temperatures in the order of 36-37 C could be recorded in the interiors of Tamil Nadu while cloudy skies are likely in the extreme northern parts of the state. The north-east monsoon inches closer with every passing day. The rains might be just around the corner, with a possible increase in rains across the state of Tamil Nadu after the passage of cyclone Kyant. Parts of Tamil Nadu could see showers around Diwali after a hiatus.

City Outlook:

Chennai – Partly cloudy skies ahead with maximum temperatures of 34 C. Light rains could occur owing to the presence of the weakened system in the vicinity.

Trichy – A rather hot day on the cards with temperatures reaching 34-35 C. Some drizzles possible in the city.

Madurai – A fairly warm day up ahead with maximum temperatures of 35-36 C. Showers could occur in the evening.

Vellore – Partly cloudy day likely with temperatures peaking at 33-34 C. Drizzles possible.

Coimbatore – A rather hot day by Coimbatore’s standards with maximums of 33-34 C. Light rains possible in the district.
