Severe Cyclonic storm Mandous which lay over Southwest bay of bengal has slightly weakened as dry air from east eroded into eastern periphery of Cyclone. It now lies as a Cyclonic Storm 250kms from Chennai city. Moisture advection from southerly direction has started moving into cyclone’s core which will protect it from further weakening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is likely to move in Northwest direction and make Landfall anywhere between Chennai and Marakakkam, close to Chennai tonight between 1am and 4am as Cyclone strength.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Under its influence,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wind speed reaching 55-60kmph, gusting to 65kmph likely to commence along the coast of North Tamilnadu including Chennai city from evening 6\/7pm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Winds will gradually increase as cyclone moves in closer. Wind speeds reaching 70-80kmph, gusting to 95-100\/110kmph is very likely over coastal KTCC districts during landfall time. (1-3\/4am)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Heavy to very heavy rains with extremely heavy rains ( Accumulations upto 250mm is expected over Landfall area) and surrounding areas could see rains upto 120-180mm till tomorrow morning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chennai City will witness very heavy rains from late evening with gale force winds likely to commence from late-night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In view of Approaching cyclone \ud83c\udf00:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2713 As Cyclone is likely to make landfall close to Chennai city tonight, Public are asked to not to venture out post 9pm .<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2713 People are requested to Recharge their mobile phone’s battery to full level and have power banks ready in case.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2713 People are requested to replace batteries in their torch and recharge them and keep ready.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2713 People are requested to keep some candles\/emergency lights ready as power cut is expected while cyclone crosses the coast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2713 People are asked not to park their bikes, cars under trees and keep them in safe place<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2713 People are requested to cut any tree branches with-in evening if they are looking weak. (Please do not ignore this)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2713 Please buy and keep some essentials for tomorrow morning.( Do not panic buy) Winds will reduce only after 9am tomorrow. That’s why.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2713 And most importantly , buy some bajji, pakoda & snacks along with hot tea\/coffee for tonight’s power packed performance from Cyclone.!!! (On a lighter note).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
