Heavy rainfall warning over coastal Tamil Nadu

While cyclone Megh moved away from India, a monsoon depression located in Bay of Bengal approximately 1000km east -southeast of Chennai is expected to track west –northwestward direction. Under its influence and advancement of north east monsoon, rather heavy to heavy rains are  expected  over coastal areas of Tamilnadu from Pondicherry to Kanyakumari. Medium to rather heavy rains are expected over Chennai city and neighborhood and isolated places of Interior Tamilnadu. Rainfall activity will increase in coastal areas of Tamilnadu , Delta Districts and North Interior Tamilnadu in the  coming two days.

Rain/Snow would occur at isolated places of Jammu & Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh.

Chennai- Cloudy conditions with few spells of moderate to heavy rains over many parts of city. Max Temp would  be around 31c

Vellore –Cloudy weather with a thunderstorm in the late afternoon. Max temperature may touch 32c

Madurai- Partly cloudy conditions expected in city. Max temperature may touch 31c.

Trichy- Cloudy weather with medium Thundershower in afternoon .Max Temperature would peak around 31c.

Coimbatore-Isolated Thundershowers  possible during the  day/evening. Max Temperature would hang  around 32c.

North East Monsoon
Orissa super cyclone, 1999 which crossed Orissa coast near Paradip on 29th October, 1999 was the most intense cyclonic storm over north Indian Ocean in the recorded history of the region. The estimated sustained maximum surface wind speed was about 140 knots at the time of landfall and lowest estimated central pressure was 912 hPa.
