Cyclone Fengal weakens over land, brings relief to Pondicherry and Villupuram

After making landfall near Pondicherry, Cyclone Fengal has started to slowly move inland, offering much-needed relief from intense rainfall in Pondicherry and Villupuram district. The cyclone’s central dense overcast (CDO) brought torrential downpours, with Mylam in Villupuram recording 500 mm of rain in the last 24 hours and Pondicherry receiving 490 mm. Villupuram has recorded around 600mm of rainfall since yesterday morning.

As the cyclone weakens, rainfall is expected to ease. However, Chennai and nearby areas may experience intermittent showers until December 4th as moisture lingers.
