Cyclone ‘Gaja’ weakens and moves away from Indian mainland
Destructive winds of Severe Cyclonic storm “Gaja” has left behind scores of damage to vegetation, property and civic infrastructure in Delta districts of Thanjavur, Thiruvarur, Nagapattinam and Pudukkottai as it veered west into Arabian sea where it dwells now as a well marked low pressure area. With conditions in Arabian sea not conducive for further intensification, it will continue its westward trajectory as a weak system. As it does so, it pulls the moist winds from Bay into it, triggering scattered showers in parts of Tamilnadu. Wind speeds across parts of Delta and STN has come back to normal levels and scattered showers are possible early in the day. Patchy showers are possible in the interiors of the state through the course of the day.
General trend is reduction in showers over the weekend but fresh convection in the form of low pressure will set stage for another wet phase of monsoon early next week. And if forecasts are anything to go by, this spell is expected to be a widespread one providing ample rains to North Coastal TN.
