Tropical Cyclone Alert for Tamil Nadu Coast: Deep Depression likely to intensify

The deep depression over the southwest Bay of Bengal, near the Sri Lanka coast, has been moving in a north-northwest direction over the past few hours. Numerical weather models predict that the system will intensify into a cyclonic storm today, as conditions are favorable. It is expected to slightly move northeast before shifting northwest in direction towards Tamil Nadu.

Heavy rainfall warning:

Chennai and surrounding areas received significant rainfall yesterday. A slight reduction in rain may occur during the daytime today due to the current positioning of circulation . However, rainfall is expected to increase from tonight across North Tamil Nadu, including KTCC districts (Kanchipuram, Thiruvallur, Chengalpet, Chennai). Heavy rains are likely tonight, with heavy to very heavy rains forecast from tomorrow afternoon as the system moves closer to the coast.

Delta districts of Tamil Nadu are well-positioned to receive very heavy rainfall today and tomorrow.
