Depression Over Southwest Bay: Extreme Rainfall Alert for Tamil Nadu

The well-marked low-pressure area over the southwest Bay of Bengal has intensified into a depression this morning. It is moving in a northwest direction and is expected to strengthen into a deep depression, nearing the Tamil Nadu coast by November 27. There is a possibility of further intensification into a cyclone, potentially moving very close to the Tamil Nadu coast by November 28.

Heavy Rainfall Warning ⚠️

Under the influence of this system, Extremely heavy spell of rains are expected over coastal areas of Tamilnadu :

Delta Districts and Pondicherry: Heavy to very heavy rainfall with isolated extremely heavy spells on November 26, 27 and 28 November.

North Coastal Tamil Nadu including KTCC districts (Chennai, Thiruvallur, Chengalpet, Kancheepuram): Rainfall activity will increase from tomorrow afternoon. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is anticipated on November 27, 28 and 29.

Wind Forecast:

As the system approaches the Tamil Nadu coast, squally winds with speeds of 40-50 km/h, gusting to 60 km/h, are likely from November 27 onwards.
