Heavy rains hit Chennai and surrounding areas, more expected
Chennai and nearby regions have been experiencing continuous heavy rains since last night, with many areas recording over 200 mm of rainfall since 10:30 PM yesterday.

The low-pressure system over the southern Bay of Bengal has intensified into a well-marked low-pressure area today. It is currently centered over the same region and is expected to move west-northwest, likely developing into a depression within the next 24 hours. By the early hours of October 17, it is forecasted to approach the North Tamil Nadu-South Andhra coasts.
Very heavy rainfall warning ⚠️
As the system intensifies and moves closer to the North Tamil Nadu coast, the dense western bands of the depression is expected to bring very heavy rainfall to the North Tamil Nadu and South Andhra coasts, including the KTCC districts, starting from October 16. Isolated locations may experience extreme downpours, with accumulations up to 25 cm.



Northeast Monsoon Begins
The Southwest Monsoon has fully withdrawn from the country, and the Northeast Monsoon has officially commenced over southern peninsular India today – 15th Oct 2024.
