Monsoon makes a Date with Andaman
In between the hullabaloo of various synoptic activities going on in North indian ocean basin currently, South West Monsoon kept the schedule on track and penetrated into Andaman Islands yesterday.
Coming over to main theater, a Low Pressure Area (LPA) is already seen spinning in the Southeast Arabian Sea area close to the Peninsular coast near Kerala and another LPA is expected to evolve in the east central bay of Bengal by today night. With the combined efforts of these two systems, Monsoon is expected to make way into South Kerala anytime from today to the next 48 hrs.
As such heavy rains are forecast for Andaman Islands with strong gusty winds, entire Northeastern states, Kerala and South Coastal Karnataka today. Southern districts and Northwestern districts of Tamilnadu too are expected to have showers today.

Till yesterday evening, the Northern limit of Monsoon passed through Lat. 5°N/Long. 70°E, Lat. 5°N/ Long. 75°E, Lat.6°N/ Long. 80°E, Lat. 8°N/ Long. 85°E, Lat. 11°N/ Long 90°E, Mayabandar, Lat.15°N/ Long. 95°E and Lat.17°N/ Long. 98°E.
Squally wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 Kmph is very likely along & off Kerala and Karnataka Coasts, over and around Lakshadweep area and Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
City Outlook:
Chennai – Partly cloudy sky with an expected maximum of around 36 degrees and a minimum of 28 degrees.
Coimbatore – Generally cloudy sky with a high of 34 degrees and a low of 24 degrees. On&off drizzles are expected in the city and surrounding areas.
Madurai – Generally cloudy sky with Maximum is expected to be around 35 degrees and a minimum of 25 degrees. Occasional Drizzles could be expected.
Tiruchi – A cloudy sky is expected with a High of 36 degrees and a low of 26 degrees. Light rain possibilities are there.
Vellore – Generally cloudy sky is expected with a Maximum of 36 degrees and a minimum of 27 degrees.
