Monsoon Onset in Sight for Tamil Nadu
The first cyclone of the season, named Shakti, has taken shape over the Arabian Sea. Fortunately, no significant impact is expected over the Indian subcontinent as the system is moving away from the coast. Also on 2nd October, we also witnessed a deep depression making landfall near the Odisha coast, marking the beginning of the North Indian Ocean tropical cyclone season.
Thunderstorms Over Tamil Nadu Continue :
Meanwhile, Chennai and many parts of Tamil Nadu have been experiencing late-night and early-morning thunderstorms, driven by wind convergence and rising moisture levels. This pattern is likely to persist for the next 2β3 days, bringing more thunderstorms across the region.


Eyes on the Northeast Monsoon :
Now to the most awaited part of the season β the Northeast Monsoon. Leading numerical weather models are hinting at a possible wind reversal around 14th October across southern peninsular India. This would be followed by a surge of moisture-laden easterlies, paving the way for the onset of the monsoon over coastal Tamil Nadu around 19thβ20th October.
That said, the confidence level in this forecast remains low due to the longer lead time. We are closely tracking the evolving conditions and will continue to share timely updates.
