The Monsoon’s Last Hope

North East Monsoon 2019 has been quite disappointing so far. With the Chennai division pilling up deficits upto 210mm (-41%). The rains so far has helped us cross 300mm of rain for the season. But to that magical figure of 850mm as far as Chennai is concerned looks like a mountain task. There is some hope with a system spinning up in Bay of Bengal on the influence of the favorable phase of MJO in the first week of December.

Until first week of December, Sporadic Showers cannot be ruled out. These Showers can be Heavy at times between 21-23rd. Seasonal High Pressure Area is likely to cover North Tamil Nadu from 25th of this month. This inturn is expected to result in the Dip night time temperatures across interiors
