Chance of rain persists

Weather Update:

A low-pressure area has formed over south bay of bengal today and it is expected move closer to Tamil Nadu by 18th dec.

Westerly trough interaction:

Numerical models suggest potential interaction between this low-pressure system and an incoming westerly trough over North India .This interaction is likely to steer the system in a northerly or northeasterly direction after nearing the northern Tamil Nadu coast.

Rainfall Likely from December 17

As the system approaches the coast, rains are expected to resume across coastal Tamil Nadu starting December 17. The stretch from Pondicherry to Nellore in southern Andhra Pradesh may witness moderate rain from December 17, continuing until December 19.

Heavy Rainfall may occur at few places in North coastal tamilnadu.

The incoming westerly trough is likely to amplify upper-level divergence, leading to very heavy rains on December 18. Scattered locations along the coast, particularly between Shriharikota and Mahabalipuram, may see experience intense rainfall depending upon how the interaction happens.

Note:
This heavy rainfall event may occur either along the coast or just offshore. The exact impact will depend on real-time developments and the nature of the trough-low interaction.
