North East monsoon onset likely to be delayed

Indian winter monsoon, a key source of precipitation for Tamil Nadu is likely to have a late onset this year. Delays in withdrawal of South West monsoon and westerly winds still prevailing over the peninsula are few of the factors which could be likely contributing to this delay. Numerical weather models indicate the easterly winds to pick up during the latter part of the month ushering in the much-awaited rain maker.

Meanwhile, interior thunderstorms are forecasted to continue over the next several days due to wind convergence and instability. Few of these could sustain until the coast creating possibilities of isolated sharp showers.
