Subdued TN Thunderstorms phase likely to continue

Active Monsoon conditions over the core monsoon regions has resulted in the lack of proper thunderstorms over parts Tamilnadu. This trend is likely to continue over the next few days.

This phenomenon is due to fast paced dry westerlies in the atmosphere from the Arabian Sea which reach speeds upto 50-60kmph at the respective heights. These westerlies prevent storms from towering resulting in a subdued phase. It also prevents the Sea breeze from entering the land resulting in hot temperatures even after dusk. TN thunderstorms are likely to return post 20th June. Until then warm and hot weather is likely to continue with few places receiving isolated thunderstorms.

As far as the South West monsoon is concerned. The usual areas like the Konkan coast has been battered with Heavy rains on time. Kerala has missed out on Heavy onset rains. But this is turning out similar to the last 2 years where Kerala’s monsoon picked pace in late July and Aug.
