Typical monsoonal rains ahead

For last 2 days Chennai and surrounding areas ( particularly areas close to coast) received good rains as a result of trough in easterlies. Though the trough has moved away , rain is likely to continue over coastal Tamil Nadu including KTCC ( Kanchipuram, Thiruvallur, Chengalpattu Chennai) districts for next 4-5 days as easterlies will continue to pump moisture over these regions.

These rains will be of typical monsoon pattern. Coastal areas will receive rains during late night to early morning period and interiors will see rains in afternoon and evening time. There will be bright sunshine and sudden rains in between.

What’s in store for next week?

Numerical weather models are bringing up a low over south Andaman sea which is seen rapidly intensifying into a full fledged system. Whether the system will move to TN shores will be a question mark as a westerly trough is seen around the same period. This westerly trough dipping down from North India may alter ridges and may take system away from TN shores. ( Subject to change)

Still it is very early to make any call . Lets wait and see how things evolve. We will keep you updated.
