Wait for intriguing NEM onset closes in

The wait for the intriguing North East Monsoon onset has kept most of the weather watchers on tenterhooks as the normal window period between 15 and 20th October just got passed by.
Thanks to the depression over Gangetic West Bengal, widespread heavy to very heavy rains have occurred over Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand and North eastern states. On the other hand conditions are becoming favourable for further withdrawal of Indian Summer monsoon over remaining parts of North eastern states, Central India and northern parts of peninsular India.

Tamil Nadu is expected to remain largely dry and slightly above normal day highs set to continue for a day or two. Few isolated showers cannot be ruled out over ghat regions of the state.

City Outlook:

Chennai – Sunny and humid with highs in the range of 34/35C. A chance of an isolated shower in the evening.

Vellore – Sunny and warm with highs of about 33/34C. Slim chance for rains.

Trichy – Hot weather to continue with mercury settling at 36/37C. An isolated shower is possible in the city.

Madurai – Unseasonably hot and sunny with max of 37C and slight chance of a shower later in the day.

Coimbatore – Warm and sunny with highs of 34C. Chances of precipitation is less.
