Potential Tropical storm to move towards South Andhra Pradesh

Synoptic situation:

The well marked low pressure area in the South Central Bay of Bengal has concentrated into a depression this morning, with forecasts from numerical weather models suggesting further intensification into a cyclonic storm. This storm is expected to impact South Andhra Pradesh and parts of North Tamilnadu from the evening of December 3.

Forecast:

Commencing from the afternoon of December 2, the northern coastal areas of Tamil Nadu is likely to experience moderate rainfall, escalating to heavy to very heavy downpours in KTCC districts (Kanchipuram, Thiruvallur, Chengalpattu, Chennai) on December 3rd and 4th. ( Note : The intensity of rainfall will totally depend on the movement and proximity of Cyclone to North Tamilnadu coast line)

Wind:

In response to the approaching cyclone, surface winds are projected to strengthen along the Tamil Nadu coast, with speeds ranging from 40-50 km/h and gusts up to 65 km/h from the evening of December 3 is very likely.

Landfall:

The cyclone’s trajectory indicates a northwest movement, with a probable landfall over South Andhra Pradesh on December 5. We will keep you posted on this.
