Season’s first land depression likely near the Monsoon Zone

The Indian Summer Monsoon’s northern limit now almost covers most parts of India except for a few areas in West Rajasthan and the adjoining areas. The Monsoon Trough, though yet to establish firmly across the Monsoon Zone, is currently seen with a well-marked low pressure embedded within it anchored close to east Uttar Pradesh and the adjoining Bihar. It is likely to intensify into a depression in the next 24 hours, and thereby making it the season’s first land depression.

Under its influence, heavy to extremely heavy rainfall is likely to occur over parts of east Madhya Pradesh and heavy rainfall over parts of Chhattisgarh. The trough at mean sea level is seen running from Punjab to North east Bay of Bengal passing through the center of the well-marked Low Pressure.

Meanwhile, in the south and peninsular region, an offshore trough runs from South Gujarat to north Kerala coast will dump rains along the west coast and the western Ghats. To the east of it, rainfall across Tamil Nadu, Rayalaseema and parts of Andhra will see subdued rainfall activity.
