Very Severe Cyclonic Storm Nivar to make Landfall tonight

As per the latest observations Cyclone Nivar will further intensify into a Very severe cyclonic storm. Forecasts predict this storm to cross later tonight near Mahabs – Kalpakkam areas with a wind speed of 150-170kmph.

Yesterday KTCC region received widespread rainfall averaging more than 10cm due to the outerband of this cyclone. Many roads and low lying areas were left flooded. The forecast for today also shows very heavy rains in the KTCC region and a peak throughout the night.

Chennai city could start witnessing gusty winds of 40-60kmph from today morning which would turn cyclonic by evening. During cyclone landfall, winds upto 100kmph speed are likely over Chennai city with very heavy rains from tonight.

Other major districts to watch out today are Villipuram, Cuddalore, Pondy, Vellore and Tiruvanamallai. The areas north of Landfall will have Waves very rough.
