Where are the rains?

While everyone one of us expected depression to give good rains from today morning, but in actual we are seeing very cold temperatures as surface winds have turned West-Northwest to East-Southeast due to the current position of depression.

What’s the reason for rain bands staying off coast, pounding in sea and not moving into coast at all?

Due to the position of depression, surface convergence/confluence is seen happening off coast which is not letting bands in. Models well anticipated this and it is happening. But conditions are expected to improve gradually as we head into late night. As the depression is seen moving wnw, bands should start moving in soon.

Depression’s status:

Depression is seen deepening as of now and may start to weaken from tomorrow morning as shear is expected to increase. System will linger close to Chennai for next 2 days and gradually weaken.

Will rain come or is it a buss?

NTN including Chennai city and SAP should start seeing rains soon as conditions turn better. Moderate to rather heavy rains is expected from tonight till tomorrow evening with breaks in between. Surface wind speeds are expected to pick up from tonight.
