Brief reduction in monsoon vigour over Tamil Nadu

The low pressure system which provided sustained rain spells over most parts of Tamilnadu, has moved towards Lakshadweep surroundings adjoining SE Arabian sea. Owing to this, the rainfall activity will reduce a touch in Tamilnadu. Diwali day should offer some occasional rains dampening festive spirit at times. Showers won’t be as widespread, but it does rain in some patches over the state.

Easterlies will considerably weaken in SW Bay or Bengal as the low pressure in Arabian sea alters the wind patterns over Peninsula. This system is expected to linger in Arabian sea for next several days but not too far from western coastline. Kerala is expected to get heavy rains due to the aforementioned system. Parts of Coastal Karnataka, Goa and Konkan will be witness to light rains during the same period.

As one looks ahead at the forecasts post Diwali, interesting developments are shown by global models on the potential wet wave, on the back of a low pressure area over SW Bay around Nov 12th. But the easterlies should be back in the Bay well and early around Nov 9th, indicating that the monsoon rains are here to stay with little or no break.
