Mostly dry weather to prevail over North Tamil Nadu

Dry weather is expected to prevail over North Tamil Nadu for the next 15 days. After the good spell of rainfall in Northern areas of Tamil Nadu, a shift towards predominantly dry weather is anticipated for the next 15 days, driven by the influence of continental high pressure over central india. While this suggests a decrease in major rain events, it’s premature to conclude that the curtain falls on the Northeast Monsoon (NEM) 2023 for these regions. Notably, there remains a potential impact from easterly wave post-December 20th (Subject to change) and we’ll provide timely updates on this matter.

The recent spells, attributed to Cyclone Michaung, have significantly altered the precipitation scenario for Chennai, moving it into excess category. From October 1, 2023, Chennai has recorded 1077mm of rainfall, surpassing the NEM normal of 850mm for the period of October to December.

Looking ahead, a fresh easterly wave is forecasted to influence areas below North Tamil Nadu starting December 12. Areas such as pondicherry, cuddlore, delta districts and Southern Tamil Nadu will witness rainfall from this wave/circulation.

There are chances for light to moderate rains for next next few days over KTCC districts due to the remnant moisture content, but nothing major is expected.
